What if I told you that binging on junk food could actually HELP your chances of losing fat? That's right- just follow these 3 steps and enjoy binging your way to a slimmer waistline...
Step 1- Create an efficient metabolism by eating every 3 to 4 hours throughout the day.
Remember K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid!) Load your fridge and cupboards with the absolute best choices for each macronutrient- ie high quality proteins, veggies, healthy fats and complex carbs. Simply mix and match one selection from each food group to incorporate into every meal (or snack) throughout the day.
Drink only water and green tea....any liquid calories need to be eliminated immediately.
Step 2- Follow a weekly fitness regimen that consists of 2 or 3 total body weight training sessions and at least 3 interval workouts.
Now for the pizza, cookies, ice cream, or whatever else you may be craving...
Step 3- Select 1 "cheat/treat" day each week and GO NUTS! Binge on as much crap as your stomach can possibly handle.
Disregard any literature you've read that encourages never eating bad or having just 1 measly cheat meal per week. Honestly, who can knock out all of their cravings in just 1 meal?
"Not I...." says the personal trainer who sports a 6-pack year round!
For me, this day of over-indulgence is Sunday and I generally consume around 6,000 calories worth of low-quality, great tasting, and highly processed "food." I simply eat whatever sounds good in ridiculous quantities all day long.
By the end of the day I am feeling a little sick and come Monday morning, junk food is the last thing on my mind! I can now easily make it through the rest of the week without giving in to temptations, or even experiencing temptations for that matter.
Ironically, by dramatically increasing caloric intake in this fashion on 1 day per week, I have actually increased my chances for fat loss by ensuring my metabolic rate doesn't slow down due to long periods of caloric restriction.
The technical term for this fitness phenomenon is 'carbohydrate cycling' and it is truly a beautiful thing.
